I've got to download the camera, and post some pictures from our trip to the snow last Sunday. We had a really good time, half the fun of course, is in the getting there. Actually, our trips to the snow go something like this:
Drive for 2 hours to reach the snow, stop along the way for gloves, sleds and food, and potty. This trip we stopped only for the potty, because we actually managed to find gloves for everyone, yay us! And we just decided this year to forget the sleds because of the money involved (and the fact that the kids used the sleds on dirt, breaking them in the process... when are they ever going to learn?)
Play in the snow for an hour.
Drive for 2 hours, give or take, to get home. The trip home actually included a stop at the grocery store deli for sandwiches, and a stop at Kmart so I could call my friend Linda to see if I could drop by her house to pick up some clothes and scrapping stuff she's been meaning to give to me for ages. Unfortunately, she was headed into the hospital, and no one was home as a result. So we got 5 dollar shoes for Bec, Syd and Shabree...SCORE for us, at Kmart, and went home. Where we watched a video we'd gotten at RedBox in Angel's Camp while at the grocery store. We *LOVE* Redbox, we got the video 50 miles away, and were able to return it the next day at the *local* store w/ a Redbox...and they're all OVER the place. The movie was Horton Hears a Who, which we hadn't seen yet, and it was cute. Quite a bit better done than Cat in the Hat, which I'm sure had Dr Suess rolling over in his grave! Then bed for Becca, since she had school the next day, and the other girls watched VHS tapes on the new VCR/DVD combo we got from Walmart. Oh, it's been SO NICE to have a VCR again... opens up a whole "new" world of videos for the girls to watch, things we haven't seen in years! I've been collecting Disney videos since I was in my 20s, so we've gotten to watch those, plus Becca has a bunch of videos from when she was small. So we've been getting great use out of the VCR, and I'm considering going to the used video store to see what I can find cheap. I don't know where any pawn shops are, but I know quite a few of the thrift stores in the area, so I'll have to look there as well. We have to pay the car registration this month, and I've been trying to get insurance on the van, but it's a headache because my license has expired, and to have insurance, I have to have a license, but to take the driver's test (because of my eyesight... long story!) I have to have insurance on the van! Which is basically your classic no-win situation. I'm going to have Jerry get the insurance, since he's the licensed one, and then I'll go take my driver's test and there you go. I should have done this like two months ago, admittedly. Dad even gave me the money to do it, too. We'll get it done, I'm hoping this week. Now, I may not be able to take the driver's test for a month, so we'll see about that. Hopefully I won't run into more issues due to the temp license being expired. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on that one.
So we're going to TRY and find some "cheap entertainment" along the lines of going to the snow, and any ideas are welcome. It's been awhile since we've been to the zoo, which I BELIEVE there's a free day once a month, and there's always the crocker art museum, Syd and Bec have both been there on field trips and thought it was just the coolest. Really... I prefer the snow! I'll have to think what else. Once upon a time, I bookmarked all the local museums and such, but I lost them all. I believe there's even a model train museum, that would be cool... though I ought to save that one for when Dad is able to visit again, because he would LOVE that. I suppose we could go to Old Town or something. We missed out on all the fun Fall and Winter stuff like the pumpkin patch and visiting with Santa... it's frustrating because so much of that stuff now requires SOME money to do...even Santa. Well, you can go, but the only way you can take pics is if you buy THEIR pictures. I mean, what is the point? Plus we didn't really have the gas at that point either. Such a lean year. I'm not complaining. It just was. I'm SO ready for a trip to Disneyland! LOL.
Okay, let me go hunt down the camera and see about getting some of these snow pictures loaded. I really should have done this while I was typing. Jerry is going to watch Michael (with John Travolta playing the Archangel) so I am going to go watch that with him... such a good movie. I think that's one of the rediscovered videos. Yay!
Yea, I'll upload the pictures later, it's still got almost 400 to download.
I'd forgotten everything about that movie, it was good to watch it. It's been so wonderful being able to go through all our "old" movies, we had so many of them. I guess we've been without a VCR for at least a year, probably more like 2.
Okay... I got the pictures in, so I guess I shall post this now. Hope you enjoy! Love to everyone.
YOU WENT TO THE SNOW??? I SO WANT TO TAKE CECLIY AND DESTINY TO THE SNOW. THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN. I'VE BEEN THINKING ON IT REAL HARD ABOUT TAKING THEM SOMETIME THIS MONTH.. MY PARENTS HAVE BEEN PROMISING THEM EVERY YEAR FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS AND HAVEN'T TAKEN THEM YET.. I HAVEN'T TOLD THEM THAT I WANT TO TAKE THEM, I WANT TO MAKE SURE I CAN DO IT BEFORE I TELL THEM, EVEN THEN I MAY KEEP IT A SECRET SO THEY CAN BE SURPRISED..
